hey thanks for the fast reply and the spell check :D , the reason I ask is because my car is out of warranty and im having a problem with the fuel gauge, good example I went to fill my fx45 on saturday when I went to fill up I got to the gas station with the light on ,the pointer on the E and the computer showing me xxx's I then fill up and it only takes 54litres and my pointer only goes alittle above 3/4 full, there is seriously something wrong especially if its got a 90litre tank, so now im thinking about buying the 2 units i need to see if it will solve the problem, I hate the feeling that im at the pump every couple of days, any tips if i decide to tackle this alone im pretty good with doing alot of car maintenance on my own brakes, oil changes etc.... but it seems fairly simple if i can get to it remove the old and install the new correct? I mean I know i have to be extra careful because im working around gasoline but that seems to be it? anytips would be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks.

Many have done this before... do a search and you can read about other's experiences...

This sounds more like a fuel sender problem. There are two sender units, main and sub, one on each side, accessible beneath the rear seat. The main sender is attached to the fuel pump on the right side. The sub sender is on the left. I can't tell you what the difference is, but my guess would be that the actual fuel gauge reading is some kind of average of the levels sent by the two sensors. If one sender unit goes bad, you would see erratic reads like you're experiencing. The good news is you probably only have one bad sender, but the bad news is that you don't know which one.

Hey nsousa, let us know if you end up replacing the fuel senders yourself. My fuel gauge has been doing this for over a year now, but I am too cheap to have the dealer fix it again......for the third time!! I'd like an idea of how much effort is needed, and how much the parts cost.
