My driver side mirror was loose as well. It would shake as I was driving around, and when I closed and opened the mirror completely, it went away briefly, but came back. I took it in, and the service manager claimed that I probably bumped it, but he would be nice to fix it under warranty. They then looked into tightening some bolts, but realized that the problem was internal and ordered the whole mirror assembly. Here is where the things started getting uglier...
When the part came in, they called me and I took the car in. After they fixed it, I picked it up and drove back home and the mirror shake went away, so I was happy. As I was pulling out of a parking spot, there was a big X on the all around view monitor display. Obviously, they did not calibrate the camera that came with the mirror assembly. I called the manager in, and mentioned to him that this was not done, and he asked me to bring the car in. He apologized profusely over the oversight, and promised that he will have all the cameras calibrated properly. (Obviously, I was thinking to myself, the technician never really followed the Infiniti procedure to replace a mirror assembly... instead he just replaced the mirror assembly.)
When I picked up the car again, he showed me that it was calibrated (no more X mark). I asked him how they do the calibration. He told me that it was pretty simple, just push a few buttons next to the display (He didn't show me how to get into the calibration mode).
In the subsequent days, I started noticing that the driver side image in the all around display is brighter than the rest. Further, the rear camera has a lot more distortion than the rest. I have a feeling that these guys are probably not trained well to deal with these cameras. I know a little about cameras, they usually need to be corrected for distortions, gains, and this is usually not a simple process.
Please advise me on how to proceed to get this properly fixed? Does anyone here have access to the service manual? If so, does it talk about how to do calibration of the cameras?
Please help!
Hopefully, this is a lesson for others about what to watch out for when they get their mirrors replaced.
