Do you need to drop the engine to replace broken studs in the exhaust manifold on an FX35? I needed to replace the upstream O2 sensor on the passenger side. I couldn't get it done myself so I took it took a local repair shop. They tried but stopped after a short while recognizing that the threads might strip if they continued. If that happens they'd need to replace the exhaust manifold. So I purchased a manifold and all the parts (studs, bolts, gaskets,..) and brought that to them in case it stripped. It did and now they are concerned that while removing the fasteners at the engine block they might snap off. seems reasonable they might. Car has over 200K miles on it, but will they need to drop the engine to remove/replace the broken fasteners?

Any idea how much this should reasonable cost or labor hours needed to do only one manifold? They're estimating ~$1,500.
