Hi, I have a CA 2007 FX35 with 161k miles that has thrown a P0420 code (passenger side). This was after a series of engine misfires due to bad coils (all fixed now) so it's pretty certain that at least the passenger-side cat is shot (and it's not the O2 sensors, etc). I've changed the engine air filter, gotten a new full synthetic oil change, put BG in the tank, and cleared the codes several times along the way and so far, the pending code will come on before the I/M status is ready, so I have no choice but to get a new cat(s) if I want to pass smog. California is really, really tough. I know Fed-compliant cats in all other states (lucky you) are like <$200 each but in Cali the OEMs are $750-800 each.

1) Does anyone know if G35 catalytic converters will fit on a FX35? If so, is it a direct fit, or will the shop have to make adjustments?

2) Does anyone know if it would be worth trying USED FX35 or G35 cats? Do they go bad so often that it's only worth it to replace with new OEM?
