yup....my new FX is ofically a lemon

first having a starting issue since i got it and tonight the WORST!

im heading home late from family visit and all of the sudden, the AWD, VDC/OFF, SLIP light come on and the car is beeping.

then random other lights starting coming on and off and the red brake light comes on.

then the transmission is clunking and the car is reviing and then braking automatically :shock:

next thing i know, it starts to pull away on its own and as im braking on top of that, im heading into a 35 zone going 65 and there is a COP!!!!!!!!!!

he pulls me over

i show him that my car has gone wacky and he actaully lets me GO!!!!!

but then i wish i had a police escort as it gets worse and worse all the way home with randon lights blinking inside, the actual headlights turning on and off by themselves and the RPM needle going to absolutely the BOTTOM of the bezel and then to the top.

the "D" for drive disappears....engine sercive soon light on....i could go on and on.....

i BARELY make it home. turn on and off the car a few times and it keeps getting worse....BUT i got it on tape again

needless to say, im pissed! :evil:

I can't imagine.

I hope it's something simple, but it sure doesn't sound like it.

Having a timely record of this and the other time with the starting problems can only be in your favor when you go to the dealer if the car decides to not to act up while it's there. (Remember the movie, "Christine?")

I'd be looking to get another car, I'm thinking.
(not much consolation--but some, hopefully)

Most sorry to here about this... which NOVA dealer gets the job?

I wouldn't be surprised if this was just your ECU taking a dirt nap. All the systems you mentioned going wonky are controlled by that thing. Here's hoping its something that simple to diagnose/replace.

I'm crossing my fingers that you can still meet with the rest of us NOVA folks on Saturday! I really wanna see your Zaino shine. Even if you don't have it back by then... come out anyway!

sounds really strange that an electrical malfunction would actually effect the vehicles acceleration and breaking - that is a major liability for Infiniti

when electrical components fail in a vehicle they usualy disable themselves as to not cause situations where the vehicle is accelerating without the drivers control - you could have been seriously injured.

so i just went to the dealer and talked with the GSM and my sales guy.

the good news is that my sales guy is going to help me out along the way here. he knows i bought 3 cars from them and that im a good customer to them.

he said to have it towed in today or in the am tomorrow and they are going to put me in a loaner for as long as it takes. he said that they will diagnose the codes and the video i had of the incident and see whats parts to replace.

he said that if they cannot fix it this time and/or if it occurs again even if they do have a fix, that i need to call the consumer affairs and they would assist with that call. he said that we will get a rep out on site at that point and that if they cant get it fixed that time, they go for the "lemon".

the good news is that, he offered up all of this to me on his own and said that if i cant be fixed the next time, he will assist in helping me get a new car.

i know if i pursue it all by myself that it will be much harder, so im gald that i have him pulling for me.

so hopefully, this week they will have a resolution for me and i will go from there.

I don't know how it works with Infiniti, but other manufacturers seem to pay more attention when a Service Manager or GM backs you up on a buyback/lemon law claim. I'm glad it sounds like they'll step up to the plate for you.

BTW.. is this Rosenthal? That's where I got mine. Having my FX for only a month, I would be interested in your comments about any of the local service departments.

yes this is rosenthal.

their service dept has been good with me in the past, but with this starting issue that i have, they havent been as good becuase the computer threw no codes and they didnt want to diagnose it further.

the sales dept, notably george khalil and paul ballard, have been very good. better than i have had at any other dealer ever.

in fact, since i was having trouble getting the service guys to take the car, i talked to george today and he is going to assist whereever i need it to get this resolved in a timely manner.

this is for two reasons. first, i have bought 3 cars from them and he knows me from all 3 and that i am a good customer for them. second, he has been there for a long time and knows a lot about these cars and seems to have a vested interest in my satisfaction, which is a nice thing.

we will see how things progress here...

There is an article in the NYTimes about viruses in autos.... maybe that's whatcha got!

But the question lingers: Could a car be infected by a virus passed along from, say, your cellphone or hand-held computer? Or worse, by a hacker with a Bluetooth device within range of the car's antennas?

The short answer is, not yet.

had the FX towed to the dealer. just got a call that there are so many codes thrown that the tech is going to take the car home with him and run diagnostics while he is driving it for several miles...

that doesnt dound too good :roll:

it might be time to do some lemon law research

Did you write down how many miles you had when it was towed away? I don't know about the Tech's driving your car home with them.

They should take it out and drive back to the service lot and leave it at the dealer I think. How do you know it's going to be safe at his house?

I had one electrical glitch 700 miles after buying the car. I was on the highway and the car just started jerking. Like the gas was going on and off intermittently and then the car just suddenly stopped responding to the accelerator pedal. I pulled over to the side of the highway and restarted the engine and thought the car was fine, but it happened again. I pull over again and restart and the car works ok again but then it happens again (all above 50mph). Brakes work fine and steering is fine. Only thing that won't work is the accelerator.

Anyways I pull over for the 3rd or 4th time and the car is just coasting. I brake to a stop and the engine stalls. I call the dealer I purchased the car from and he asks his techie but they can't figure anything out over the phone. So i just ask about disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and the techie says to go for it.

Anyways that worked for me, the problem never showed up again and there were no codes that the dealer could read. Hitting 40K miles now and no electrical problems except for the cig lighter up front not working (fixed now).

Anyways, my story is definitely not close to yours and you did get yours on video tape (good call!) I just hope that if anything is wrong with your car they find it and fix it. Otherwise they give you a new one. Gd luck and keep us posted!

ECU

I had an "electrical" problem too when I bought it bran new back in March 2003. One day I woke up and the car was dead! Completely dead, and it wasn't the battery. They replaced the ECU I believe, and everything has been fine since.

i called them today at noon to see the status.

guy told me that the tech drove the car for a 50 mile round trip last night with diagnostics running and NO problems at all!!!

then he procees to say that they are just startig and stoppong it today to see if it happens again. i asked him wwhat their current plan of attck was with all of the 500 codes it threw already and he said there was none :shock: :shock: :shock:

WHAT!

basically they have not done ONE THING to this car yet in 4 fvckin' visits to the shop!

im waiting for a call back this afternoon and if they try to hand this car back to me without replacing or fixing something, im going to blow my lid!

in fact, if that happens in going right back to george and telling him i want his cooperation immediately on getting the rep out here to deem this thing a lemon

i am NOT going to drive around waitng for another freakin random thing to happen again. ..... i should just so i can run it headfirst into a tree and put a lawsuit in their hands :x
