X50 here and pretty satisfied. You'll find that X50 to Valentine has been long debated on this and many other forums...it seems like I read about most of them before deciding. I got an X50 because it was cheaper, works pretty good and could buy it from Best Buy with an extended warranty (they'll pretty much replace it for any reason - unless it's stolen of course). I liked buying it from Best Buy because if I had a problem I could just go to my local store and exchange it outright instead of having to ship it off to the manufacturer.
I think the arrows on the Valentine are cool though.
The “Top Dog” of radar detectors in the Over $300.00 price category goes to Escort’s X50 for the following reasons. It was the only radar detector to report constant on and instant on radar over the hill at the 2 1/2 mile cone. It consistently alerted to MPH’s Bee III POP mode. It was one of only two of the six detectors tested to be invisible to the new Spectre III RDD and it tied in the Long Ranger test alerting at an astounding eleven miles from the radar guns. The X50 also lends itself easily to interfacing with motorcycle defense systems with external audio.
can't go wrong with a v1. saved my azz like 50 times at least.
you can't beat the arrows even if hte escort can see up a hill 2 and 1/2 miles away. the v1 tells me stuff WAAAAAAAAy before i get there i mean like at the beggining of a brdige and the cop is at th end.
Nothing is better than driving in legal limit...
I had owned V1 and K40 (laser Defuser) myself for last two years.
and one thing i find out through my experience that no matter how fast you go the police will get your a$$ kicked.
As many of you already know the State Police's Vehicle armed with Instant On featured Radar and Laser guns.
V1 - One of the top leading brand among Radar detectors. Even though these have great detecting range and with the radar counter meter, they are useless with the Laser Gun. Once you hear that long beeping sound with full lights on....you have to think again that how much money you have in your bank account...you will see that "Club lights" flashing through your rearview mirror.
K40 - Laser Defuser, any Laser Gun shooting at a car with K40 will get "Error" message as a result instead of the actual reading speed.
I was happy since i added up K40. The combination with V1 and K40 worked out great for a while. I was laughing at the State Troopers that have to hit their Laser guns to make sure that works.
However, Once i got pulled over by a trooper check my speed with their eyes and he says that he used "the clock count method".
I finally noticed that no matter what you add on to protect yourselves, nothing can safe our a$$es other than driving our FX under legal speed.
Also it is good to know each states' undergoing legal limit allowance.
i.e.) MA - 14 mile over it's speed limit.
RI - 11 miles over their limit + no court record in last 6 month. (that's what judge says when i was in the court)
CT - 8 miles over it's limit (I hate CT troopers)
One most important thing is that you better know which area you driving through.
Hope you enjoyed my post and if you have any question about Radar detector works reply on my post. I'll share my knowledge with you.
Yeah, welcome to Cuamonwealth  . There's a designated box on the back of MA citations for checking off the speed as having been " estimated ". Which is a way of saying - Now you can take that fancy detector of yours and shove it where birds don't chirp.
BTW, if anybody thinks traffic court judges are there to be impartial arbiters, I've got some Worldcom stock for you.
The funny thing is, that some cops go to training to be able to judge your speed just by looking at you. It sounds like the biggest crock of sh*t to me, but apparently they are tested and allowed to do it.
Also, to add another to the list, I was given a ticket once and the cop used the "pacing" method. I guess the cop was behind me (*way* behind me, in my opinion) and was able to deduce my speed without using the radar gun.
So I agree that the odds are stacked way against you. To me, the bottom line is that habitual speeding will get you in trouble. I try to pick and choose my spots to speed. I have enough theories on when its okay to speed to write a small book! One of them: when I pass an accident on the freeway where a bunch of emergency vehicles have responded, I figure I have a green light to speed for a while since the highway patrol in the area are all busy! (i know, its not einstein)
they don't have to prove ish in court. all they have to do is say you were speeding and that's it. i got a ticket when the cop said i did 15 over and i was doign 5 over and he just pulled on the freeway so he couldn't have paced me anyway. doesn't matter, but still my v1 saved my azz liek 50 times so the one time i got caught was when i was on an empty freeway going only five over figures.
still v1 will save me again and again when there are other cars around.
Here is a quote (one of many) from a guy off my brother's Viper board.
"I don't know which one is the best but I know which one is not ...
Escort's Passport 8500 X50 is a marketing bullshit.
I bought this Escort X50 in August 2004 to drive down to VOI 8 in Dallas as fast as possible. I nearly got a stroke on the labor week-end because of this radar detector. It is as effective as a $50 radar detector. When you cruise at 100-120mph and suddenly you hear the alarm to go full range you have maybe 1-2 seconds to break.
Then after you hit the break and you look into your rear mirror see your buddies' tires smoking like ****. And this happened several times during that week-end ..."
The arrows make all the difference in the world. When you add in the fact that the Valentine is completely upgradable for a fraction of the cost of a new one, the choice for the V1 is hands down. The Speedzone test didn't test the latest V1 which I have which has the full POP features. My brother's did not have this and he upgraded his 4 yr old V1 for $189.00 with a full brand new warranty. He has 2 of them and has upgraded both over the yrs. There is no other detector that offers this sort of service. Not one!
Once again, once you use the arrows, you'll never even consider anything else.
Actually, I don't think you can legally be given a ticket if your shot with the POP frequency.
