Has any of you had this problem?

I had my '04 for about 6 months, now with 14000miles on it, and just noticed that 12'o clock steering wheel leather's getting peeled off. It never happened to steering wheels on my previous vehicles. :( Another Nissan's cost cutting result?

It should be. I will bring it up at 15K check up.

Hmm, that's not good. They'd have to replace the entire steering wheel for that. Mine is perfect after a year, though I only have 13k miles. I noticed the leather on Dave's (~30k miles) steering wheel has worn very smooth and shiny (as opposed to mine which came soft and with a matte appearance, as it is now), but no signs of wear like that. My Grandfather has to use a steering wheel cover b/c his sweat is very acidic and tears up leather wheels pretty quickly. Have you had any problems like this in the past?

My hands can be sweaty but not sure about acidic part. As a matter of fact ever since I bought this FX, my hands stay dry because of that freezing air out of A/C. :D

I saw someone's leather seat got worn out like my steering wheel from FA. Don't remember who he was but the pix weren't pretty. Looked like a cat did moonwalk on his seat.

Funny that you guys mentioned the acidic hands. My mom has always been able to rub any gold or gold plated items on her hands, and get a black streak  Don't think I've ever seen or heard of anyone else who can get that reaction. I'm happy that I didn't get that bit of her DNA.

a friend of mine has the same problem on his FX35 (36K miles) :? Any idea how much a new steering wheel would be? Must be expensive because of air-bag :(

On 1 hot summer day, I put a wet towel over the steering wheel thought that would help keeping the steering wheel cool but after few hours, I removed that towel (now dried) off the steering wheel and had found cracks all around it just like a 30-40 year old car. I'm glad that happened on my previous car.

Charcoal Interior steering wheel bubbling

Got ours in late April '04, and immediately noticed these small 1-2 mm raised areas on the leather steering wheel.

None have ruptured yet, but they seem to be cyst-like with air trapped inside, probably during manufactureing? We will have the dealership document the problem and fix it at a later date--

I'm tempted to tell them just to give me a new steering wheel now, and I'll replace it later, in case it's out of the warranty period when it really starts to [email protected]*# up!

I have the exact same problem. This is the reason I was actually on here looking for the same issues.

My steering wheel leather is falling apart like no other; I absolutely cannot drive with the leather all hard and nasty its all around now.

I must say for a $47,000 car this is just ridiculous, i have barely 40K and the **** steering wheel leather is no longer on the steering wheel.

My hands do sweat and it might be cause by that but come on this is not a Hyundai.

So is this covered by warranty or what??? Please let me know.

Thanks,

no problem here afte 2 years and 27K miles.

I condition it everytime I do my seats. At least once a month.

I do have a friend that has this happen to allof his vehicles though. The chemical makup he has destorys the leather. His hands sweat badly and it just eats it away.
