Just an FYI,

The Nissan Oil filter box for the 3.5 motors lists FX45 as one of the vehicles.

Found this out the hard way today when I picked up 4 of the wrong filter from the local Nissan dealer. Crappy part is I didn't notice until the oil was drained :(

So, new oil and old filter <sigh> for now.

I think this happened to FromheretoInfiniti AKA Don @ the dealer no less. The diff is a 1/2" or so in length.
Btw what did you pay for filters each?

Because I found a cheeper source than my local nissan dealer

As someone else around here would say...Wdnt Me. I've been jerked around a little bit on my "free" oil changes, and may have mentioned it previously, which is probably what you're recalling.

What could've possibly been the motivation to give up a 45 for a Durango?

Ok, I have been told my a mechanic at nissan that they use the same filter on the G, as the FX 35 and 45.

Are you saying they are different ?

thx

yes

They are the same diameter and threaded the same, but the one for the 45 is a bit taller than the one for the 35.

That is my understanding.

On the filter "box" of the shorter one it lists the vehicles it fits. It lists the FX45 and then all the 35's (no FX35) but in the second column it lists the motors each car has and it lists the 3.5 motor for the FX45. Pretty sure it's a misprint.

Like stated above the 3.5L filter is just shorter. but that means less filter element. I'll stick with the tall one. The bigger the better IMHO when it comes to oil filters (to a degree at least)

P.S. DAYM, they want $10/filter over the net? Talk about a rip-off

It's $10 for 2 oil filters.
