for any sort of trips (city vs. highway, short vs. long, winter vs. summer, etc.),

is there any need to cool down the car once arrived at your destination? that is, should you let the car idle for a minute or so before shutting the engine off?

Normal driving NO. Racing really hard, YES, it couldn't hurt.

The life of your car would actually benefit more from a short warm up before taking off like a bat out of ****.

Yeah, I try to keep it under 2000 rpm until the temp gauge gets to midway. Takes a couple klicks til it gets there.

About cooling down, I heard about it when thinking about buying the Subaru Forester XT (which has a turbo). Wasn't sure if it applied to non-turbo cars. Thanks for the comments SB.

I never heard of cooling the car down before. I know this has been done with turbos (i.e. with turbo timers) but never with cars without ones. What would the benefits be?
