How do you get the aluminum trim panels off around the cigarrette lighter and gear shift? I bought a Kuda cell mount on ebay (looks pretty sweet I might add) and need to pop off these panels to install it. Thanks
- 1st you need to take off the clock panel. Simply grab on to the bottom sides of it and pull towards you. If you have a trim removing tool, it would be even easier. Once you have it removed, remove the wire harness from the clock.
- Shift knob: Pull down on the bottom plastic trim of the shift knob. This will expose a metal clip that holds the shift knob in place. Remove the clip and remove the knob.
- Just grab on to the sides of the aluminum trim and pull up. Its help on with only a few clips. With it partially off, remove the seat heater switch harnesses.
The clock panel is actually much easier to remove if you first remove the plastic panel/bezel that contains the radio/HVAC controls. It just pulls right off (just pull it out a bit so ou can grab the top of the clock panel and be careful not to pull on the wiing attached to the rear of it).
Thanks for the tips guys, they really helped out. I mounted it this morning and it looks and blends in great. It does not come with the cell phone plastic mount, that has to be purchased separately. Here are some pics.
Hey, that does look pretty nice. Do you know what the max width is it can accomodate? I use a Blackberry as a phone and yours looks to be a similar size.
My wife (5'6") didn't have a problem, and my cousin (6'4") didn't either.
I should have taken pics of the install, but it only took a few minutes. The plastic mount part I bought at a local electronics store, it will hold phones from 1.25" - 2.5" wide. Made a template of the screw patter with a piece of paper, used double sided tape to hold it in place, then drilled 4 holes for the screws. 2 of the screws were hard to get in because of the angle of the mount.
The mount itself has 2 clips. You have to pop the top of the center console off. Then the top clip slides on top of the console and is sandwiched in when you put the top back on. The bottom clip is bent up and under the bottom of the console, by the rug.
