I had my FX for two months before I'd seen in a post on FA that we have door-handle lighting- I'd never noticed it before!

I think its fine. In a way you don't want some bright led shining there because at night it would probably be a distraction as well as an eye sore.

The stock light adds a nice non-overpowering ambient glow.

http://www.davelectronics.com has a good selection of LEDs made for 12v installs. I have gotten a few for testing in a red, red-orange and orange. For me the orange is going to be the best for my Bricky non tech interior.

So far I have located a power source (AWD switch Lumination) that will power the LED's only while the lights are on. I does not dim the LED when the dash lights are dimmed but I have tested using a small 1k to 10k pot that I can use to adjust the brightness of the LED's

I have not been able to figure how to remove the sunvisor clip so that I could pull down the driver side headliner so that I can get to the back of the sunglass holder to insert the LED from the back. I have the service manuals and they don't tell me squat about how to remove the sunvisor bracket and clip. I am still working on it, but I might stil be working on it when you get back from vacation.

I have not been able to just drill the **** hole / holes for the LEDs and then work out the logistics of installing them.

Great idea with tapping the AWD illum switch. I'll definitely keep you posted on my progress as well. The headliner issue is starting to give me a migrane :?

BTW, I found a great, economical way to diffuse narrow angle LEDs - use a dremel cutter and cut the rounded tip off of the LED bulb. I tried this the other day on a 10,000mcd blue LED and the beam pattern on a white wall was soft, wide and balanced instead of an intense spot beam - perfect for ambient lighting. Cap it off with those clear diffuser caps and I think it'll look awesome & nicely finished.

I used a drum sander in my drill press to sand down aprox. 1/8 th inch of the top of the LED and accomplished the same thing. I will wait until I am ready to install before I sand of the 2 orange LED's that I plan on using. I also have the clear defusers. However, with the end sanded off the LED's will mount flush using the small black collars.
