I see a couple of you guys took my advuce and have been visiting the Engine Mods forum of My350Z.com and found the new plastic injection molded Kinetix plenum. Rather than clutter up their thread with discussions pertaining to us, I figured I'd start a new one here.
First off, if you don't know what a plenum is or what it does, reference my Crawford plenum thread on FA: http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthr...&Board=FX45&Number=67535030&fpart=&PHPSESSID=
As for the Kinetix: they're just now preparing to dyno test their first prototype, so it's a bit early for our consideration, as I like to let the Z guys pick it appart well before I consider it a viable mod for the FX. At any rate, I would only consider the Kinetix plenum over the Crawford if it proves to have better gains (we'll see; the dynos are supposed to be done tomorrow.) The downsides for us are the fact that the built in STB depression does us no good and only takes up valuable air flow space at the front of the plenum and the fact that the reat mounting holes for the engine cover are not present (though custom brackets could likely be fabricated to bolt up somewhere else). The wieght savings of the plastic plenum over the stock piece is negligible (the Crawford wieghs a little less than the stock one, also). The heat absorbtion theory is interesting, but again, the proof is in the dynos, so we'll see.
As for cost, it will likely be at least as much as the Crawford, which was recently reduced from $450 to $395. You do have to return your core or pay the $200 core charge to Crawford, but believe me, you'll never want your stock plenum again.
If you're a registered member of My350Z.com, you can follow the progress of the Kinetix plenum and keep up with current events here:http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59129 and here: http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58905 . Look for a new thread with the dyno results tomorrow or Thurs.
