mine will pick up cars in the lane next to me once in a while, but it is rare. i think that the unit is attached in a way that has some variance in how its pointing between each car....basically its a bit of a crap shoot as to whether you get one that works good or not.
beleive me, i have sat there and re-engineered how i would have this thing working, namely the two biggest things i feel need to be done:
1. the unit is right side biased and needs to be center mounted. i dont care how they turn it in to the center, the fact that its on the right makes is biased to pick up objects in the right lane....and it does....
2. the unit needs to turn slighly with the wheels as you go thru turns so that it is always poitning at the objects in your lane and not the side lanes....this of couse also needs to be sensitive to the distance you set
with all of that in mind, i think that ICC is useful when you are in the right circumstances to make it useful. basically, you cant be in a hurry and you cant really use it on twisty roads, etc.
the biggest thing that i have noticed is that if you set your desired cruise speed to be close to the average speed of the traffic you are in, it works great, but if you set it at 85 MPH and everyone else is going 60, you're in for a herky jerky ride and a lot of near collisions as people move in front of you and away.
in the end, i decided that i'd rather have the OPTION of using it and have to override it if i want regular style cruise, then not have ICC at all
