LoL. Saw that.... if there was a Darwin award for genius car owners, they should be nominated.

I was going to have them install it, but the longer we have it (the car) the less I want others touching it :)
While I feel the same way, I guess I'd prefer the dealer to do something as unglamorous as a hitch install. Besides, if they screw up the electrical, structure or bumper, then they will have to replace it (not very comforting but...).

When you get the hitch do you get the 'ball' part (not sure what it is called) as well, or do you have to get that seperately.

I just had mine installed yesterday and it looks exactly like the pictures above posted by particlefx... no ball anywhere to be found. :?

Do you buy that bar that fits in and the ball seperately?
Mine had everything included. The post and ball were tucked away in one of the compartments underneath the cargo cover.
I feel half silly.

The post is there under the spare wheel cover, but there is no sign of a ball? Was the ball attached to the post when you got it? Or should I keep looking for it to be tucked away somewhere else?

I found the post, and the pin that goes through it to hold it in place.

I appreciate the help.
I don't think the ball was attached on mine. I believe it was wrapped in a protective foam cloth (but it's been a while and my memory is often faulty). I think the balls range in price from around $10 to $20, depending on whether it is class I or II. Good luck!

I wonder if a template comes with the hitch if you just buy it from the dealer.
I just received mine, and yup, there is a plastic paper template that is used to make the perfect cut. I guess they stick it temporarly to the bumper and then cut out the slice that is needed.

My hitch will be installed in the coming weeks. It arrived in a fairly large box, about 48x12x24 and was about 80lbs. **** heavy for the FEDEX guys to bring to my front door I'd guess.
Yes you have to cut the bumper - some places cut 2-3 inch square, or you can take it to Rosenthal Infiniti in Tysons corner and they cut out about the same arch as the moon !
The picture with the ball hitch is actually backwards - you DO need to turn the ball hitch/tongue UP - it is too low with the drop as shown in the picture.
I towed my Coleman pop-up camper with no issues as well as this past weekend I towed 2 enduro bikes (with Bradical from this forum) - (NOT at the same time!) The camper is about 2500lbs, the bikes are about 1275 lbs with the trailer.
If you get the hitch and tow anything - I would highly recommend getting the Hitch-Vise from Hitch Rider http://www.hitchrider.com/nowobble.htm
this will take out the sloppy wobble in the hitch - bradical will confirm this!!

this thing works. no movement or sound at all and thats even when we were offroad in the FX.
Which size hitch vise would fit the fx oem hitch?
It's the first one on the web site - regular square one - HT-3 I think.

Enjoy!

What size is that boat? How much does it weigh? Looks like you're using OEM hitch?
