Hi everyone-

I just wanted to re-introduce myself to those who may or may not know me...

I used to be on FA, and I used to be a regular contributor to the GT-R forum there (over three years worth). Let's just say I found the moderators to be less than helpful. I've since transferred to http://www.GTRCanada.com and if you have any tech questions about GT-Rs you can visit the forums there. If you're curious about my GT-R you can see bits of my connecting rods (along with the rest of the car) in the March 2004 issue of Sport Compact Car...

I recently took delivery of my 2004 FX45 in Beryllium/Graphite with Tech- after jonesing for one for over 6 months. My experience with my local dealer (Fletcher Jones Chicago) was far from satisfactory- but the dealer I did end up ordering/purchasing via VPP (Lisle Infiniti) has given me exemplary service. Some of you may remember my comments about Grubbs' chrome wheel fiasco during my waiting period for my FX...

So far the amount of driving I have done in the FX has amounted to break in miles- but the chassis of this vehicle is absolutely incredible. I actually prefer driving the FX to my SL- that may be the "newness" factor though!

I've done a couple of "mods"- the iPod audio input via rear DVD harness plug, and the Nav input switch. I haven't had any problems with seats, hatches, Nav detail, or anything noteworthy yet.

The one quirk my FX has is- the standard finish on the 20" wheels is a matt silver- but the lugnut center seems to be far duller in hue than the wheels. Is that normal?

Cheers!

Welcome to the board! Got one question for you about the iPod audio mod. Have you found that the volume output when using your iPod is lower than the CD or radio ouput at the same volume dial setting?

About the iPod-

I use a third gen 15GB iPod with a Belkin car charger that has a built in "amp" of questionable power output that pulls the line level from the dock connector at the bottom of the iPod.

With this "amp" maxed out the sound level is pretty close to the CD/radio volume level- close enough that I consider it splitting hairs.

The nice thing about the mod is there's absolutely no RF interference- so even with the charger "amp" maxed out the sound is still clean.

Then again, my car audiophile days are long gone too since I think the OEM FX Bose system to be more than adequate for my use!

Congrats on getting your '04 45. Mine has also had no problems that seemed to be affecting more of the 03's than 04's.
I'm at around 2100 miles on mine and I felt like it had nice torque under 4K rpms for fun, but it really opens up once you get out of break in.

I'm really excited about the dual exhaust ...

For me it would have to be relatively quiet (all my cars sound rather stock under normal operating conditions except at WOT) and lighter than OEM (not hard considering the big suitcase muffler). Stainless steel, nice thick flanges and good TIG welds, mandrel bends, things I look for at first glance. I would prefer a dual titanium canister exhaust ala Mugen S2000 style. If the stainless dual is $1200 IIRC, and the Mugen one for the S2000 is $1500, then I'd probably swing for the titanium one at the Mugen price. I hope Paddock Performance is listening!

I'm also interested in a CAI- along the lines of a high flow airbox like the ones Gruppe M sell for the GT-R, E46M3 et al. I personally do not like the current offerings... I would install a K&N drop in filter before going with an exposed engine bay intake. I do like the improved throttle response of the K&N drop in filters vs. standard filter...

Suspension tuning too- I'm waiting patiently for some more detailed info on the ProDrive kit since it's supposed to be cockpit adjustable.

Brakes- Brembo USA has already measured/tested an FX for a brake system, according to my inside sources at NNA. It may not be on the SKU listing, but if you ask for it they may already have the kit ready to go- and it will far better than any billet caliper system that other people are proposing simply due to the fact Brembo engineers are designing it. FYI Brembo USA sells through Race Technologies unless you have an insider deal.

That's about it for me though... if I even get that far! I really am impressed with the FX45- according to my NNA source the FX lineup is jewel of the crown internally. In my limited ownership experience I would have to agree- I am wholly more satisfied with this vehicle than with the SL, my old M3s or my S2000...

Huh- that's really good to know! Perhaps this means NISMO will get into the act more?

i gotta know more about the brembos....

i spoke to an agent of BAERCLAW awhile back, and they told me "sometime in 2005"

brembo emailed me back telling me "no immediate plans"

we have a mnember here that complies rotors and calipers into a tricked custom setup (designed to run off the oem m/c and comply with the vdc, autobrake, abs, etc) which also looks good, but i dunno....

at the moment, i wanna finish the exhaust/intake first.....

brembo......((drools))................'

especially since NISMO is not officially part of Nissan.
Huh. Didn't know that. (I thought it stood for "Nissan/Infiniti Sport Motor Ops", or some such.)
