I just got the notice in the mail about my plates and have an appointment to pick them up on tuesday. but on the notification ti says ""If they are not assigned to a vehicle wihtin 30 days from the date of final notice, we will cancel these plates and make them available to other applicants." It said on the website that you coudl own them and pay the yearly charge even if they are not on a car.

I don't care that much if I dont have the plates, i doubt someone will take them anyway, but do you think they already charged me for them? if i dont go to pick them up will they charge me? i dont want to put them on the car that i have right now and would rather just wait if i cant have them at all.

I'm pretty sure they charge you when you originally order them.

Think of it as any other special order custom part for your car. If they make it for you without charging you ahead of time and then you decide you don't want it they're ass-out for whatever costs they incurred to make the part. Somebody else might want it, but there's no guarantee it'll sell.

As far as the 30-day registration requirement goes, I would imagine they don't want people ordering a bunch of plates and hoarding them as decorations for their garage wall and such. Or buying up every cool saying they could think of and starting a business selling custom plates on eBay. Just a guess.

yeah makes sense, but i still have to pay them every year even if they are not on a car, thats what the site says. I guess I'm going to have to see what happens this Tuesday
