Hi everybody, i'm new here. For the FX45 owners, is the gas mileage for the car really bad ? How often you guys have to go the gas station. I have a buddy who is interested in getting the FX45 but he's worried of the fuel consumption. Give some suggestions guys. Thanks!

It depends on so many factors that you just have to get one and find out for yourself. ::wink:

In the mean time, use these 2005 EPA Fuel Economy Estimates for comparison (city/highway):
--------------------------------------------------------------
FX45 15/19 mpg
FX35 AWD 16/22 mpg
FX35 RWD 17/23 mpg

My last 2 tanks have gotten 14.1 and 15.2 with a 50/50 mix of city and highway. Today I filled up and got right on the highway. When I got home, the computer said 19.8. Too bad that won't last.

In 20,000 miles on an FX45 in WV (hills) I have averaged 16.1. When my dealer picked the car up for service and delivered it I checked the milage (250 mile trip) and the old guy driving it got 18.6mpg. I couldn't believe it! I didn't think it was possible to do that well. Next trip I tried driving at 75 and got almost 18mpg. However,m it really doesn't matter because I'm not driving 75 in my FX most of the time

Since I go no slower than 90 on most days and up to over 130 on some, you can just guess my gas mileage! 13.0 Fill up all the time, they love me at my local station!

I have a 2003 FX 45 with 9000+ miles. On trips from Ohio to Chicago (turnpike), I always average 20 mpg, sometimes 21-22. Around town (rural area, with some city driving), I seem to average about 16.8 consistently. I don't baby the car, but I don't take it easy either. I am more than satisified. My wife has a G35 coupe and we haven't checked her mileage as yet.

For comparison, we have a 2003 PT Cruiser Turbo and it gets around 19-20 mpg around town (rural with some city driving). On a trip it gets over 25 mpg, which is probably less than the non-turbo version.

P.S. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil and find that it runs smoother and quieter from a cold start.

Over 20 mpg???? Even if I only went 55 I don't think I could get that! Wow, you have a good engine or your computer is full of crap! Seems like I live at the gas station!

:) My computer is accurate and almost the same as the old way of dividing total miles driven by actual gallons to fill up. However, in driving from NE Ohio to Chicago, I am using the Ohio and Indiana Turnpikes most of the way and they are both dead flat. I drive around 70 mph (once in awhile 75) as do not want any speeding tickets. Traffic is fairly light except around Gary, IN and when entering the Chicago outskirts. I have never driven anywhere else on a trip as yet, so have no other trips to compare. When I drove to Pittsburgh to have the clear bra installed, mileage was around 18, although car had under 1000 miles at the time. I average only about 5000 miles a year on the FX, as keep it for special driving!

My local driving (we live in a rural area of NE Ohio), which is also fairly flat, normally gives me very close to 16.8 mpg (never less than 15.0 - 16.0. I use 93 octane religiously and as the engine broke in, the mileage increased. (Previous to break-in, it was not good). Most of my driving has been in the summer, as I do not like to drive the FX45 in bad weather, saving it for better days. On bad days and in the snow, I drive my PT Cruiser. Not that the FX45 isn't good in bad weather, it is such a nice car that I like to keep it that way. So far, not one scratch or door nick (I have a clear bra) and no problems with the seat controls or bubbling or any other issue, other than the hatch issue when new, which wasn't really a problem, but was taken care of at my first oil change by the dealer.

As to traffic in our area - on the way to work, my big traffic jam is if someone is in front of me at one of two stop signs between my home and work, or if I miss the one red light near work. Total trip is about 4.5 miles each way and the roads are patrolled, so no speeding. After work, (I work late), traffic is very light, so I would say that my driving habits are not the same as most on this forum.

I guess I am lucky. Every time I drive the FX I like it more and more. I put a coat of Meguiar's NXT wax on it - awsome! It would make me happy if Infiniti improved the ride just a little, but the handling makes it worth it. My only concern will be in a couple of years when I find out about Infiniti's trade-in value.

We took the FX up to Chicago last weekend. On the trip back to Fort Wayne, my gas mileage was 20mpg. We moved with the flow of traffic and didn't really push it. This also includes all of the stop lights in the small towns along US 30. We only have about 2600 miles on the car right now, so I'm hoping that it will only get better.

I used to get about 15MPG average. Lately? It's been about 13 on a good day. I don't know what's happened so much that it's changed so much, but:

- Here in CA, we've got gas that's only 91 and it's got 10% Methanol in it
- We spend a lot of time either not moving or moving slowly on the freeways and streets of SoCal
- I suffer from a chronic case of Paediculum Plumbicus.

I'm here in Lo$t Wage$, and on the trip (where I did 100+ MPH for 95% of the way on the 15N after Victorville) I got 11.9MPG.

**** I wish I could see anything close to 20 mpg! You guys are lucky!
You could, but you wouldn't want to. I'd trade you in a heartbeat, in order to be driving on the Autobahns again. 8) I consider you to be the lucky one.
