I've seen some threads about synthetic vs reg oil but I was wondering about additives. I've used Duralube in my old jeep. I must admit I was swayed by the infomercial. I figured if the stuff was 1/100th as good as they said it was it was worth the $15 every other oil change.
I guess it worked great because I never had any problems with the Jeep Engine (4.0l). Without tearing down the engine how do you know how well the stuff works?
So are these things (oil additives) for real or just snake oil? Are there any that are better than others? Any that are known crap?
I'm not an engineer but the science behind the stuff seems pretty interesting to me.
