Dead fuel gauge on a 2009 FX50s with 135k on the clock

My first time posting a question on this forum. My question is how often do owners have a problem with their fuel gauge going dead and what is the most common cause.

Is it the gauge itself or are we talking about the actual fuel pump sending unit? Any imput of how I should approach this would be greatly appreciated.

hey this used to happen to me a few times a year. I would remove the rear seat, remove the passenger side fuel pump cover, unbolt the fuel pump/sending unit and just wiggle it up and down as much as I could without unplugging cables or fuel hoses, then bolt it button it back up and it would be good. I assumed the float was getting jammed in the down position. At one point I thought it was related to parking at a slope when the car was at about half a tank, but I am not sure if I could say this was the case 100% of the time

Thank you for your experience Chris. I was beginning to think no one had any issues with their fuel gauge. It was in the '80s when I posted that and now it's in the 30s welcome to Spring.

When it warms back up and I get back out to the garage I'm going to do just what you tried and see how it works. I will give more feedback after I see how it responds.

In researching this I did find the two new springss from a TSB that replace the single one on the fuel pump.

Unfortunately for some reason I cannot find those springs again and their part numbers, can you please direct me to them.

Thanking you in advance.

I never ended up replacing the springs or even remedying my problem. I figured for a 7 minute fix every 3-4 months I'd just deal with it.
