I'm the original owner of a 2004 FX35. My dash started bubbling after the special extended warranty expired. I called Infiniti, but they refused to work with me on resolving the issue. Now my dash is an unsightly mess.

Does anyone know of a class action suit that might bring some relief here? I heard there is one in California and Texas. I live in Minnesota. Are there any options available for me?

Failing that, has anyone found a dash cover that doesn't look crappy?

I got a Coverlay dash cover for my GF FX35/2005. Just from the Texas heat the original dash looked like the worst case of acne you had ever seen, barring some special effects from Walking Dead. The Coverlay is a tight fit around the steering column cluster and at the A pillars. I test fitted it and GF loved it; even though it is not the EXACT color match of the original.

Okay now the hard part..... you have to take it off in order to silicone into place.

2 hour/2 beer job at a leisurely pace in the Texas heat.

and BTW her dash is turning into some kind of soft goo. Don't really understand Infiniti's choice of component composition there, but the Coverlay hides the mess for now.

I'm back. :)

What color is your dash? Is the Coverlay darker or lighter than the original?

Any chance you could post a photo?

Had the same problem with my '05 FX. Dealer replaced it at no cost but you have to ask for the repair. Its not something they'll offer proactively.

Have same issue dealer just said no way they will replace even though it was original owner that requested the replacement. I just purchased from them yesterday. I ordered one from Costco, just a cheap one to see what it looks like and if not good will go with the coverlay I guess next. Any pics would be great of others that have covers.

Alton B., when and where did you have it repaired by dealer?
I am original owner of a 2005 fx35, 90K miles. I visited the Southwest Infiniti in Houston, Texas 2 weeks ago and they would not cover and quoted me $3000 to fix it. Any owner has recent experiences on this bubbling problems, please advise.

Looks like company on ebay has a new dash cover that fits the 03-05 fx dash, but only in black. Its about $185/free shipping is supposed to look like original dash, it is plastic but can be died to match. I may take a try at it as its less than the coverlay. I did get the carpet version through Costco, not great, returned it.

I'm the 2nd owner (uncle was the first) o fan 05' FX 35 with insane bubbling on the dash. When I called the dealership a few months ago about it, they told me I was out of luck because it was out of warranty. Are you saying that you got yours replaced for free this way? I will make a cross country drive if your dealership is still honoring this

Dash Cover

I bought an '08FX35 in February '17. Knew nothing about this dash problem. Lexus had the same problem with their early RX300's and RX350's. Knock on wood, my dash is in excellent condition and doesn't look as though it's ever been replaced. Anyway, check the attached link to Advance Auto. I bought this cover about 3 weeks ago. Fits perfectly and the color match is pretty darn close. I'm well pleased. Advance had an online promotion of a 25% discount when I ordered mine. I paid $27.00 and some change delivered to my front door. The photo on Advance's web site looks like the cover is all one piece. It's actually two pieces. One for the overall dash and one for the instrument cluster. I had a similar cover in my previous vehicle. A cheap preventive maintenance policy that doesn't take away appeal from my dash. Also, if you're like me, I don't like attaching sticky stuff to my car, like the Velcro strips that come with the dash cover, I'm going to use double sided tape and tape a piece of anti skid, rug backing material to mine. It worked well on my previous vehicle and makes removing the cover for cleaning and/or whatever a little easier than pulling on Velcro. The anti skid backing pad from the "Dollar Tree" works just fine. Just my $00.02 worth of input. Good luck.

I bought my 2005 FX35 new and have always loved it. My dash started bubbling last year. I came across something yesterday that said there was an extended warranty for this but was only good until your car was 8 years old. I called the Infinity number to see if they would still honor it. Nope.
Last week the SES light came on (flashing while driving) with the rough engine idle. I now have a love/hate relationship with my car. LOL. There is only 163,000 miles on her and I want her around for a few more years, so paying to have it fixed. This is the last $$$ I will spend on her though.

When I took my '04 FX35 into dealer for airbag recall in spring, I asked about dash bubbling-service manager said there was a recall but many of the dashes replaced bubbled again...when I give car to my son this fall, I'll leave it up to him if he wants to get it covered or not.

I bought my 05 last year with a bubbled dash. The price was too good to pass up, and I have LOVED the car.

There were several class action lawsuits, it even affected Toyota, but judges always set a time limit.

Coverlay has a really nice option if you plan of keeping it.

I wonder if this issue was resolved when they did the facelift in 06, because the majority of those I hear affected are all 03-05 models... could just be coincidence.

It's not a coincidence it's a defect and they know about it. Just like the Door locks, the premature ripping of the front drivers seat. The Bose CD player not ejecting CD's and only one side of speakers playing. Or the subwoofer intermittently disconnecting. But the only thing they (Infiniti) will honor is the airbags that that can kill you and your passengers if activated in a crash.

I purchased a 2005 FX35 in 07 not knowing about the dash problem. When it started bubbling (around 2010) I contacted the dealer I purchased it from and was advised that the car had already been serviced for the problem. I contacted Infiniti and was told the warranty recall had expired. I love the car but needless to say that dash drives me crazy. I would be happy to place my name on any correspondence seeking relief.

Hey guys -I just purchased my second 05 FX 35 last week - my last one never had bubbling dash issues before I sold it -but this one - its the ONLY issue in the entire interior!!!! The back seats look like no oner ever sat in them!!! The guy took $500 off the car cause of it....I def have no problem taking the dash apart to do it myself... I see the Coverlay is an option - does that replace the dash or just cover it??
I'm cool with getting a dash and replacing it myself.....if anyone knows where the best place is to find one that would be awesome..... Thanks
