BMW X3 readers' choice best small -ute . WTF ?!

2481 Views 15 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  so_cali
Automobile mag readers voted the X3 best small SUV. Are they sniffing glue, or something ? This thing when paired with sport suspension exhibits the ride quality of a hay barn on wheels. Besides, a loaded copy costs as much as base X5. And needless to say, V6 FX will wipe the floor with it. So how come it never got the nod  ?!

For the same reasons that MotorWeek's driver's choice is the Toolrag (opps, I mean Touareg): they are idiots!
i think it all boils down to who is kicking in the most cash if you know what i mean.

"Toolrag"- that's so perfect... :!:
I was next to an X3 and it was sooo small. I thought it was a glorified isuzu or somthing. Them I realized what it was.
it does look like an izuzu from the back becuase its tall and narrow. definately does not have that wide agressive look like the FX
When I was in the market for a crossover I test drove the X3,RX, and of course the FX. Out of the the three the RX was the worst.

THe X3 does have a huge optional sunroof.
The X3 also comes with a cheap looking plastic dash and interior, and looks like all the other SUVs on the road.
how could the readers even KNOW it's the best?!? it's been out for what four weeks? how many of the readers that voted for it (all ten of them) even have driven or sat in one?!

what a crock-ola
it's been out for what four weeks?
It has been available in some dealer's lots since early last December. That's when I first saw it.

I prefer "toe rag", kinda like what you would use to wipe your feet on after running it over in your FX :firestarter:
I haven't taken a look at the X3 at the BMW dealership yet, although I do kind of like the looks of it. Much fresher design than the X5 which is already out of style.

I kind of see the X3 as more of a girl's car. Something I could see my sister driving but not me.

Gonna go and take a look sometime next week though.

Actually the proper pronunciation is........Toe rag.
Pronunciation aside, it is named (in French) after a nomadic Saharan tribe. Actually it means, "Abandoned by God". Ouch!
You would also think that the mag's would look at the reliability history of the manufacturer as part of their assessment.

ok, from the day it got to the dealer til the time the magzine was published was 8 or 12 weeks instead of 4. the issue remains, how can readers, with any degree of confidence, say something is the best, based on little if any exposure and no history?

it's one thing to have critical editors comparing vehicles side by side, but quite another for readers to vote on something that they are clueless about.
