I'm thinking about replacing my wife's car.

Does anyone have any comments on http://www.carfax.com I know it's only $25 but is it worth it, are there alternative sites?

It's worth it. The thing to remember is that they get their info from public sources of info (DMV, insurance DB, some dealers report work done on the car, accident reports, smog checks) and repairs done at authorized dealers/body shops.

If a car gets into an accident... is taken to Mom & Pop's down the street and paid for in cash, it won't show up.

It's a good way to sort out the really bad cases.

If you do find a car, take it to at least 2 appraisers at respectable body shops/dealerships in the area (not the one the guy services it at).
