18" Wheels on a FX45?

I was talking a fellow FXer about 18" wheels tonight only with a little twist. Not only about the ride but how much lighter would a set of after market 18" wheels be? I saw someone say the stock 20" are over 70 lbs!!! Since I know how big of a difference switching to magnesium wheels on my race bikes, 1 oz. at 100mph is equal to 25 lbs, can you imagine if you could save 10-20 lbs or more in weigh? Not only would there be better acceleration but also deceleration. I like the look of the 20" but thought I would explore options. Something new for me to do research on!

There are forged light weight 20" rims on the market as well. Remember, by going 18", you wil end up with 60 series sidewall - the taller, less stiff sidewalls will adversly affect your FX's handling and responsiveness.
I would like to see a light 20" vs 18" in weight. I can live with the extra profile of the tire.

- Can you speculate as to why Infi didn't use these?
- Do you have any examples?

cost alone Kenny....

NTM, wheels (like magensium) must be painted (and sealed) or they'll corrode....

i know when i switched from my oem alum. wheels to magnesiums, it was THE best mod on my bike done (and i have a fair amount of motorwork done too!)

magnesium wouldnt hold up well eenough on an auto application; even with 20" by 8" sizing....

then there's always carbon fibre wheels (weigh about 40% LESS than magnesium!!)

bikes fellas... im still talkin bikes....

for now!

sms

ps- our 20" weighs just under 34 lbs, without stem or weights (with centercap though)....

Forged wheels are expensive. They are much lighter and stronger than the cast alumnium wheels we see in both OEM and many aftermarket wheels. Magnesium wheels are fragile but the lightest (not to mention $$$$$$$).

They have 3 piece forged wheels in 20"s. 3 piece means you can have custom offsets (DEEEEEEEP DISH anyone?). Check out the Rs-5 *drool*

Personally, I'd never downgrade to 18s for lighter weight. On 60 series profile, I think the FX would lose a lot of the sport car like feel and nimbleness.
