2005 FX35 Factory Radio Bluetooth Install / Aux Input (Cheap)

After spending days trying to find the simplest, cheapest and most reliable/interchangable option to add bluetooth with hand free calling to my FX I came up with this. I hope it gets sticky-ed and shared because it will help many people looking to get this done.

First I wanted a option to keep everything looking stock but have full functionality as far as solid music quality and hands free calling. I would have liked steering wheel controls as well but I didn't complete that part.

First for this install I used a CSR8645 Module which can be found on ebay for cheap around 10-12 dollars. Usually titled (CSR8645 APT-X HIFI Bluetooth 4.0 12V Receiver Board for Car Amplifier Speaker) You can order directly from china or find a local provider with faster shipping. This bluetooth module plus motherboard gives a lot of options.

1. It runs off of 12 volts directly.
2. Has through hole soldering points for wiring
3. Has mic input
4. have short to ground points for Play/Pause, Next,Back ect... (Could use a arduino to convert the serial steering wheel controls to make these points interact correctly if wanted in future).

So to begin I needed to find the pin wiring for the factory radio and how everythign worked. After about a week of digging I found the correct FSM files and radio schematics.

On the back of the radio there is a brown port which is usually not used by anything at least for me it wasn't. This is the DVD/Rear AV port. If you look at the first image I post I provide in Orange circle the port pin and port layout. In red I circle for Pins 40 and 38 to be shorted. This will enable the CD button on the radio to switch to DVD input.

In Blue you have the audio inputs The Negative of these will come together to the CSR8645 "AGND" hole the Positive of the Left channel will go to "OUTL" on the CSR8645 and the Right Positive will go to "OUTR" on the CSR8645.

I used dupont connectors but a cleaner setup would have been to find the Rear AV harness and use that.

Next I will cover preparing the CSR8645 before install. You will want to complete your wiring with the connectors in this step as well as add your power wires and 3.5mm Jack for a audio microphone. To re-cap incase some people dont know the CSR8645 provides APT-X audio quality with phone in call and audio support. In your phone you can simply choose to not use it for calling if you so choose to.

Make all your connections with the Female Dupont connectors and I used hot glue to secure them before the heat shrink went on.

Next is the actual connections to the brown port on the back mentioned earlier. I apologize I didn't cover this part to much with pictures but the schematic in the original port shows you the pin inputs just be aware of the direction of the schematic as its for a male port.

Next I decided to make some simple spade connectors for the positive and negative wires to make the install easier but before that you need a switched/keyed 12 volt supply wire. I used the main power harness from the radio. It has a Light Green/ Red wire which supplies 12 volts only when key is on. I used a Posi-Tap to make the splice as its reliable and safe as well as removable. For the ground wire there is a screw right behind the radio in the center. I made a looped wire with ring which I soldered, too kthe screen out and screwed the ring in under it to chassis ground.

Now On the side (no pictures) I ran a basic car audio microphone to the A pillar which plugs into this unit as well. The volume level is solid and nothing else is needed so you spent about 15 dollars for this install. I have seen many other people buying $80 dollar or more control interfaces which do the same thing essentially.
