Gas Tank Door

Frustrated! Does anyone know how to open the gas door on the 2011 FX35 infinity. This is the second time this has happened. Luckily the firstborn time it popped open after several attempts pulling tugging pushing lifting. Now I pull up to the gas station turn the car off the doors automatically open push o. The gas tank door and stuck won't open. Use the key, push button on door nothing. Called a local a local infinity dealer simply clueless!!! Now pull out the manual and tried all techniques to open the door. Still nothing! Frustrated! Google search said something about a cargo area emergency release and I must be to frustrated to find it! Can someone tell me if the model actually has a emergency release gas button ? Or how to open the door! HELP ME PLEASE!!!'

You probably need to lube the little stick thingy that comes out to "lock" the gas door. Next time you can open your gas tank door, press the lock and unlock button several times. You should see something move. I'd go to an autoparts store and ask them what lube they'd recommend first, so you have something on hand when you're doing this...

I have the same issue on a 1st Gen FX 45. Mine has an access "door" inside right rear of the cargo area that can be pulled off to get your hand in the area. Warning- you can't see what you are doing BUT you can reach in- then up and feel -it feels WAY up- but fairly easy once you have done it a couple of times- and simply pull on the rod that links to the release. I tried lubricating mine but it seemed to just get gunked up and soon stuck again. It seems that a lot of road debris gets up in the area and that might contribute to the problem. I taught my wife how to do this and have had her perform this a few times so she isn't stuck some day [she "stole" it from me in preference to a very nice Porsche that's supposed to be hers- go figure].

Every time we do a "check" on this it works perfectly. The only time it sticks is.. getting gas at a busy station with people lined up behind us. I haven't bothered with a correct fix yet. I leave the access door off and am always prepared to have to reach in to get it to pop. In a way it's satisfying as I know it's going to be a real PIA to try to get to this and replace the part.

Good luck and don't be afraid to try this. It's only difficult the first time. I think I used a mirror and flashlight to help me understand what I needed to do.

One thing you can use is a petrol gel they sell at restaurant supply stores... It's used as a food safe lubricant, and shouldn't gum up anything... Only problem is you'll probably need to clean up whatever gunked the thing up in the first place before using the gel... OR go to a pharmacy and get some light mineral oil... That's another food safe lubricant that definitely won't gunk up... And it's very thin, so you can probably put it in a squirt bottle and also use it to "clean" the area...
