what does this mod do for the fx nav. please explain

Like the name says, it allows you to input informations why driving. Without it, you can't input new address in your navigation and only access previous 5? address. I belive it makes the car think as if you are not moving.

I would say that if you are the only one in the car, then it is not necessary. I find that fiddling with the joystick while driving in NYC traffic is too distracting.

Since I often drive with a passenger, they are able to enter new destinations while we're driving, I find it very useful.

I have found it very useful, and I'm very happy that I did it. I have to agree that I would not try to enter information while in stop and go traffic, but on the highway or sitting at a light (which changes halfway thru the process) it has been very helpful.

I was really close to doing this mod (bought parts, did some sodering, took apart the passenger seat) then my DVD Nav unit went out (Disc Error problem).

Now I'm really rethinking this mod. I don't want to void any warranty. I guess i'll just have to pull over to enter in new destinations. No biggie, I'm only out a few bucks for the parts.

Thanks anyways!

I was going to look into that this weekend as I have both the 05's and 06's service manual and I can compare the diagrams. If you can wait for a couple of days. Otherwise, I'll try to see if I can do it tomorrow.. I'm too tired to do that now.

Ok, it's still the gray wire, but in the smaller connector instead for the '06.

Can anyone post a pic showing the correct wire coming out to the harness? I just picked up a new FX35 ('06), and I was just about to do the nav mod when I found out the wiring harness is different from '05. Both connectors look the same size in the previous pics.

Thanks,

Alan

From the diagram above for an '06, you can see that the two harness are slightly about the same size. One has 40 pins and one has 32 pins. You want to locate the gray wire that's on the 32pin harness, the slightly smaller one.

There is a chip maker on g35 driver, that requires no changing switches.ect..I believe it was only 25 dollars. Much easier than having to move the switch back and forth, also completely stealth.

\Walt. Can you give me a little more info. Is the g35 driver referring to the infiniti G35? Where is the chip available and where do you install it.?

He's talking about this device / thread:
http://g35driver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82726

Though it give you a lot of functionality, it sounds a lot more complex than just installing a switch. It also appears to be sold out.

Accomplished the wire splice to switch. Works great but still need to mount switch. I plan to route it to the switch panel at the lower left of the dash that has two vacant spots next to the lane divergence , snow switch and whatever the other is. so glad to ge his done. I have ragged the dealer about such as stupid arrangment that came stock. too bad that infiniti didn't offer this.
Thanks to you guys for all the help and I look forward to checking the site for more stuff

I'm going to modify a Snow Switch...does anyone know (or who) how to have the switch renamed (e.g., NAV OVRD)?

I just removed the panel where the snow switch, Lane Divergence switch, VDC switch and two blanks. I thought the snow switch would be the thing but it has four wires with a plug that goes into the snow switch and tiny little posts into which the plug inserts. Not an easy thing to connect a couple of wires. Besides the dealer wanted about $70 for the switch. I am off to radio shack for a look at switches. The rocker switch I have from radio shack just about fits but the nut to secure it to the blank that I took out is too large. I still may use this rocker and cement it to the blank after I route out the area for the switch. I cant believe the snow switch is so complex. Any one with other ideas is welcome.

I tried searching for that specific grey cable (#66) from the 32 pin connector from the DVD Rom drive. Seems like the 2006 model has a few changes and looking at the connector, compared to the diagram, it might be the grey cable should be the top row and 4th cable. I'll get some pictures by tonight or next day.

Has anyone performed this mod, and if it's definitely a grey cable or some other color?
:?: :?:
