Hi All,

I just joined the forum as I found that there is a lot of good information to be had and possibly share. My 2004 Infiniti FX35 has been off warranty for a certain period and I am thinking of doing some modifications and repairs myself (if possible).

However, the one problem I could not solve is why only one track of my driver seat is moving and not the other. In other words the driver seat is not moving back and forth when I press the button. Only the left side moves on its rail but not the right rail.

Has anyone encountered this issue? The dealer is telling me that it is going to cost me $1100 to do the repairs as it is misaligned. :(

I appreciate your help in this request.

yeah I think someone had an issue like that. Turns out a gear was broken in the seat track. Wasnt possible to find a replacement, so he had one custom made. It was involved from what I remember. It may be easier to find replacement tracks. Assuming your problem is the same.

Did you check the tracks for debris? Maybe something is stick in there.

Thanks Johnmax. The dealer is saying that the track (right hand side has warped and to fix it I have to replace the whole assembly under the seat which is BS. It would cost $1300 with labor and parts.

Anyone knwo of any good junkyard in NYC area or how to disassemble the seat?

Your best bet is to first just see if the rail is out of place... if a nut went loose or something... try to align it and then see if the seat works... that's much more likely than the rail "warping"... there have been issues in the past of the seats getting "loose" or squeaking... I'm pretty sure it was due to the rails getting loose...

Try that first and if that doesn't work, then look at some junkyards...

Yea I dont see those rails "warping". Even with a 500lb person in them they wouldnt bend.

Try loosening the bolts up just enough for them to be a small bit loose. Then try to operate the seat. If its out of adjustment it might right itself. Then tighten it back up.

Steel seat tracks dont just warp on their own or even from use. Bend? maybe, but it would be very hard to do that.

I had this issue. Thank God for warranties. Had a similar problem on my first car. No warranty then, I just never moved the seat. It's annoying since the FX seat moves when getting in and out though.

Personally, I would take it apart and see if there's some noticeable problem. The service manuals have plenty of info on how to do it.

I found this guy who sells replacement seat gears. They sell for $65. Much cheaper than replacing the whole unit.

Awesome! Looks like this was a big enough issue that someone decided to capitalize.
