I have been thinking about trading in my FX50S for 2011 Cayenne. I will need to see it in person and test drive it, but I think I like it. Even since I ran into a situation that I wish I had a SUV with good off roading features, it made me think why have a SUV that can be used only on road. Cayenne is well balanced for good on-road and off-road performance. What do you think? Would you trade in your fx for new Cayenne? I don't like the looks of 1st gen Cayenne, but 2nd gen looks much better.

No. And why do you think the Cayenne is any more off-road capable than the FX?

The only thing I like about the Cayenne's are the OEM large big brake kits.

Is it weird to say if I bought another SUV, it'd be a 1st generation FX45, just something newer? I only like the newer engines in the FX35/FX50S, but like the old body style better.

Why?!? Have you spoken with the people who have come over to the FX camp from after owning a Cayenne? Search for some of those topics. And I'm with Steve... the Cayenne is THAT much more of an offroad vehicle? And what sort of offroading are you going to be doing? Or are you one of those people that just wants the capability just to have it and never uses it?

The FX handles very well off-road... even with the OEM crap tires... can't remember which member recently took his in the forests of BC (I think) but was really impressed with how well it handled and where it could go with NO problems... the only limiting factor for the FX going off-road is wheel travel... other than that, it can do quite well... ESPECIALLY if you get better tires...

Oh... and my answer to your question is an emphatic NO! :)

I think you'd high-center first. I've high-centered twice (in snow/ice) without any wheel travel issues

Nope!

My wife really wants a Cayenne, but I'm completely opposed to it. I will probably get her G37 instead.

I just learned that new cayenne no longer has low-range gear. This part I don't like :(

I can see that cayenne isn't so popular, but since they completely redesigned it, I think we should give it a fair chance. It could be really good.....at least on paper.

And trying to live down the reputation that Porsche owners have as being douchbags.

No way! I got my FX50S after test driving both the 09 X6 and the 09 Cayenne... the 2nd-gen FX is a real winner.

I would trade my FX45 for a Cayenne GTS with the 6 speed in a heartbeat. That's really the only thing missing from our vehicles, but it is a huge downer in my opinion. IF the FX50 came with a 6-speed manual it really would be the perfect vehicle. I've had my FX45 for 3 1/2 years now and every day I miss the clutch of my G35 coupe, and that's literally the only thing I miss about it. I really don't understand why there aren't more people out there that prefer driving stick...

I have absolutely no desire to drive a manual as a daily driver. None. I have a manual car to play with on the weekends and get to drive PLENTY of other people's manual cars on the track when I instruct them so I get more than my fill. I don't miss sitting in traffic with a clutch (a heavy aftermarket one that was like an on-off switch) one bit! Every time I get stuck in traffic now, that's all I can think of... "man, my leg and ass would be hurting by now if I were in a manual car" For me, unless it was a car that I was planning on using for weekend fun and/or track duty, I'd prefer an auto. If the car I wanted ONLY came in auto or manual, it'd be a VERY minor factor in my decision making

I used to get cramps in my hand from riding my bike in Chicago having to use the clutch all the time. My friend bought a 911 turbo with manual, regrets it as it's his daily driver. Fun on weekends yes, but not going to work.

Ah yes, traffic. I live in Santa Barbara so I don't have to deal with that on a daily basis. I have a 10 minute commute on a bad day, so most of my miles are racked up either just having a good time or on the freeway getting out of town for a weekend. If I lived in LA or Chicago I guess I may view things differently. And the few times I did get stuck in LA traffic in my coupe it was so rare that it didn't bother me all that much.

I'd love a manual but they're damn hard to find in NA, doesn't matter what car you're buying. Next best thing would be Audi's twin clutch or Porsche's PDK with paddle shifters.

Wonder why Nissan hasn't put the GTR's twin clutch into other vehicles? :(

Unfortunately for many, you're not the norm for most drivers... which is why stick isn't offered on many cars... too much R&D and extra $$$ tied up in additional assembly lines for too little of a payoff... hell, even the FX50's are special order now...
