I wasn't going to make this public, but since I'll be waging the battle of my life, and this community has been a part of it for so many yrs..........I submit the following:

I've been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Steve and I leave for Mayo Clinic in a couple hrs. for a 1PM consultation on Thursday.
We think the link to the site below is the best way to communicate my progress. You have to sign in and register, but once done, if you make sure the box on the bottom right is checked, you will receive an e-mail bump whenever we add an update. You will not be bumped for messages that friends write in….only updates. Please feel free to post a message to the site. It will be greatly appreciated!

https://www.carepages.com/carepages/dav ... cancercare

I'm a very strong person, but I must admit, this has taken me to my knees. It's completely overwhelming. Surreal.
This was a routine upper Endoscopy.
I have no symptoms at all. Stage IIA /T2 is my most likely situation.
This is one of the most rare and deadly cancers in the world.

I'm in as good of shape at 57 as I was in my 20's and I can assure you----that's pretty good.
I have that in my favor as far as weathering the serious surgery which is usually the optimal way to go.

Please wish me luck, and I thank all for their support in these very trying times-

Dave, Steve, and our entire family

Hey Dave,

Like so many, I too have been down that cancer road ( different cancer ). It is a wild and crazy ride. What is so important in the trip you are taking is a strong attitude and support from friends and family. It helps to be in good shape...which you said you are. Above all, try not to let this s**t get you down.

We will be thinking of you..............R

Dave,

You and I have had a private conversation about your situation so you know how I feel. But I say the following in my best hospital administrator's voice: KICK THAT BASTARD'S ASS!!! We all know you can do it!

John

Dave - sorry to hear this :( I think you know the cancer situation my wife and I went through last year exactly at this time... her surgery was Thursday, 11/13. Different cancer but she is still going strong. Conrad told me last week and I keep meaning to e-mail you. I'm going to do that now...

New to this site but please accept my best hope and wishes for a complete and quick recovery. I will mention that an attorney acquaintence of mine who is about the same age as you recently was diagnosed with the same cancer (though I can't speak as to the stage and specific nature). I do know that it was a rather grave situation. He underwent surgery and in about 4 months, he was COMPLETELY healed and back at work.

I am going to have that same expectation for you!

I want to thank everyone who has offered their support and thoughts.

In 3 hrs I meet with the the Cardiac/Thoracic division at the Mayo Clinic.
I don't mind saying I'm plenty scared of the analysis, and the very real uncertainty of my future.

I thank you all again.
The website my brother set up through Mayo will provide updates as we know more about what's going to happen.

Please wish me luck-

As Always-
Dave

Well, this is not what I expected this thread to be about... I thought you had sold the FX and were moving on from the forum.

As with the others, I am floored... and regretting not seeing you again this summer when you were in town. You know I'll be signed up for updates and have you on top of my prayer list. I'll pass your name on to my prayer group and make sure a little extra comes your way in the next few days!

Hang tough my friend,

Terry

Whoa... haven't been checking the forums as much as I'd like lately cause of school and work... sorry to hear about this Dave, but if there's anyone that can beat this thing, it's you... keep you're spirits up... stay positive... and try to laugh a lot... laughter works so well with the healing process that it can't be ignored...
