As for Carfax, I don't really trust it. My Maxima I purchased from my brother and he was hit by someone in an accident (1999 or 2000) where the police happened to be there. It was reported by the police, accident report, insurance claim, pretty much everything you can do.

I did a carfax on the car last year and it was totally clean. full interior shampoo with 303 Aerospace Protectant on the dash board & all other vynal & plastic interior surfaces. all leather will be cleaned & treated with Ardex Leather Perfect conditioning creme. after shampoo, all carpet will be treated with 3M Scotchgard carpet & upholstery protectant.

So, since I made such a simple error, should I be banned from exploring the idea of using the four channel to power the rest of the system. I know there are some other required changes to be made such as speakers, but I think I am up to it. Just had a brain let-down regarding this last little issue. Need to do a little reading up on it. 2- i can watch a dvd on the flip down screen... but there is no sound in the speakers of the car, eventhough i press the CD/AV rear button, it only plays the CD's in the cd changer.

Sounds like you have an aftermarket flipdown screen. Do you?

I checked all the fuses for continuity and they were good. I looked at the diagnostic mode, it was interesting but didn't tell me anything useful. Interestingly disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes and reconnecting had some effect.

Once reconnected, initially still no radio or nav sound but, had the center dash speaker making a soft popping sound about once per second while on acc but stopped once the car started. The next time I started the car, suprise there was the nav voice so I turned on the radio and had right side sound but no left. The next time I started the car, I had sound all over. Then this morning, I started the car and no sound again. So I turned it to off then put the ignition at acc, had full sound which remained once I started the car.

Where do you live? It sounds to me like a loose or corroded ground. Check this out for some pages from the FSM that should help you out a bit:
