We just purchased a 2006 FX35 about 3 months ago thinking we would not need the Navigation system but after driving the car for 3 months we have decided we do want it. Is it possible to have it added? This is our first Infiniti and the car is awesome!

Thanks,

Jay

Nope. You need to have many components of the Tech package in order for the OEM nav to work. So your best bet is to add an aftermarket nav.

In another thread, it seems you already have the Tech package. Is that not the case?

i would 2nd that. IMHO, theyre the best aftermarket navs out there. easy to read, and extremely USER friendly.

i have the ECLIPSE 5424 (or something like that), and i hate it. i'll put the garmin in that vehicle and use that before i use the in-dash Eclipse. if you go with it, just remember to take it off the mount (on your windshield) when you leave the vehicle, or it will "git took" like mine did...!!!

check out: http://www.gpsonsale.com they usually have pretty good prices and quick shipping.

good luck!

unfortunelly no :( my dad didn't get it for some reason. is it possible to add the tech package? or is that a rhetorical question?

If you are disregarding cost, just swap cars for one with Tech. It does not seem possible to swap out a "tech" dashboard with a non tech one. Only other "permenant" (non-dashboard mounted) option is to put a carputer in, with GPS and map software. By the time you've done that, you've spent $2500 for parts, and an additional $2500 for labor (unless you do it yourself).

Contrary to what most of the ppl are saying in this post, it is possible to add the factory navigation. I'm considering doing the same thing. Here's a part list that you'll need to get:

-The dvd gps control unit
-gps antenna
-New control panel for a/c radio and navigation
-new audio visual box
-wiring

The screen in the 06 is the same for non tech and tech packages, so you can use your current screen. The only problem is wiring. You can either purchase a whole wiring harness from the dealership and replace the main harness throughout your dashboard. Or the other option is to make your own harness with wires and tap into the connections you need. I'm taking the second option.

Well good luck and have fun! How could this not cost more than getting it with the FX?

Unfortuantely, according to his signature, he has an 05. I think the 05 screen is the same orange as my 03. If so, i think the only option has been aftermarket.

What do you mean the 05 screen is the same orange as your 03? I have an 03 and I'm trying to modify and put a factory 06 unit in.

Talking about the non tech orange screen. From what others have tried, you can't go non-tech to factory tech because of the screen in the older models.

Doesnt anybody search anymore? Its not gonna work. You would have to rewire half of the car, and all the parts you need would cost a fortune. I just don't understand why you guys don't get it factory if you intend on trying these crazy ideas.

Well I would enjoy it- I do this for a living. I know whats involved and it aint easy. But it gets to the point where its not worth it after a certain point, and with all the work that would be involved, you would probably have saved money getting it from the beginning.

We are all curious on how this would turn out, and cost. So Lets hope someone is crazy enough to try.

So, did this ever materialize in the last year? I'm gonna have to guess it didn't...But since I was searching for something I figured I'll bring this back from the depths of valhalla

ok, for the first gens: 03-05's,

if someone GAVE you a whole fx with the nav already in it, & said, take what you need, it would STILL be a huge monumental task that most wouldn't be able to pull off, building it from scratch & scrounging parts... man, way way less likely to have any chance of pulling it off.

I won't say it's impossible, cause it sure isn't, but totally impractical & pretty much "impossible" for the average guy to pull off.

it would be way more practical and cost effective to sell your fx & buy one with nav if your really intent on having the factory navigation... this all holds true for the 05& down... I can't say how much more "modular" the 06+ is... there is a chance that one"might" be much closer to plug & play.

It looks like they were a bunch of kids crying for a crazy idea.. Sorry for the sharp tone but I really don't understand why they don't research the cost and effort first and THEN go for realizing unrealistic ideas. It's always easy to throw in ideas and it's never that easy to get them done.

Actually Nick something did come of this. I added nav to Frank FX's 2007 Fx. http://www.infinitifx.org/phpBB2/viewto ... ght=alpine

But I think the original poster is not really interested anymore.... :?
That was an aftermarket system though.. I think they were interested in a full OEM one.. Did that navi got any feedback from wheel directions like the oem one?

the alpines have a gyration unit built in & get a connection to wheel speed... the new ones have great voice recognition, the alpine's are so sweet it's almost a worthwhile upgrade even if you already HAVE the stock navi :D
