Changing Battery

Just wondering if there is anything I need to be aware of beside resetting the ECU when replacing the battery in my 2004 fx 35? It seems like a sily question as i've changed many batteries.. but not sure if i need to reset anything else once i change it.. also if there is a certain way to remove the battery? correct way so I don't fry anything. Any help would be great! Thanks

Maybe radio stations? Seat memory seems to stick, as does garage door. I thought positive first?

Seat memory disappears... so set your seat so it doesn't move when you exit the car... then when you get back in, just reset the #1 position to the same position you're in...

Re: Changing Battery

You know, when I had my battery replaced at the dealer a few years back, afterward I found all of my radio presets and seat memory settings to be the same. I assumed they hooked the car up to some power as they changed the battery, to keep all the settings set. Perhaps they used one of these 12-volt cigarette lighter socket chargers ---> http://officialroadsidesavior.com/pro629016.html.

Re: Changing Battery

Yes as others said, just need to reset memory related things. Hardest part (which is not hard at all) is pulling apart the windshield cowl plastic covers to get the battery out.

Re: Changing Battery

Just pop all the clips... best to have a roundish tipped thing (metal / plastic chopsticks work) to pop up the center piece of each of those tabs and then remove the tabs and TA-DA! The cover comes off... there's about 5 clips if I remember correctly...

Re: Changing Battery

Guys,

I had my battery replaced at Sears yesterday got the Die Hard Gold with 640 CCA with 100 month warranty (8 Years) for $129 installed, After replacing the battery the car wouldn't start, cranked it for 10 seconds at a time without start. Turned out had to press the unlock button on the door or some weird thing like that and then it started up right away.

Anyway what I wanted to ask was why does the ECU need to be reset? They did not perform this task and I haven't noticed any change or problems driving the car between then and now. No lights on the dash either.

They did connect power to the car from a external source while swapping out the batteries but i think the mechanic messed up on it at some point so all my stations and car settings got reset anyway. Not a big deal it took me a few minutes to take care of it. Navigation and display settings did not get reset.
